Volunteer

Are you an undergrad, graduate student, post-doc, or faculty member at an Atlanta area university? Are you interested in giving K-12 students a unique opportunity to learn about neuroscience firsthand? Then join our Brain Awareness campaign! We send our volunteers into classrooms where they present lessons on the topics they study every day. Follow the steps below to become a part of our Brain Awareness campaign.

Step 1: Sign Up

Let us know you’re interested in volunteering by filling out this form. It’s okay if you’ve never participated before – we will hold info sessions in the spring semester to show you what an effective Brain Awareness presentation looks like and answer any questions have.

Step 2: Match

We will match you with an educator based on your preferences and availability. We make every effort to pair you with an educator whose teaching schedule and classroom characteristics best match your preferences.

Step 3: Contact

After you receive an email notifying you of your match, contact the educator within one week to begin scheduling a visit. From this point on, you will work with your assigned teacher to arrange a visit.

Step 4: Visit

Plan your lesson. Make use of the resources available on our website and others.

Step 5: Feedback

Let us know how your visit went using this form. Although it may seem minor, this final step lets us know how many students we’ve reached and provides us with feedback that may be valuable to next year’s volunteers. Email us at outreachneuro@gsu.edu.

If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to email us at outreachneuro@gsu.edu.
